Creative jack-of-all-trades Henk van der Veer (1954) is widely regarded as Sneek's city poet. He has a dozen collections of poems to his name. Furthermore, three poetry stones and two façade verses by his hand can be admired in the Waterpoort.
At the end of November 2024 the Poetry Calendar 'Sneekgefoël' appeared, with verses in Snekers by the city poet and photographs by his daughter-in-law Jamaine Festen. This calendar was printed at Copy to Print, by son-in-law Joris Pos. The working name of this calendar was therefore 'Fan'e Kouwe Kant'.
In 2003 Henk van der Veer together with photographer Paul van Goor organized the exhibition on the Oud Kerkhof: Poëzy op poaten. In connection with this the 'jaardachskalender' (birthday calendar) Spoetnik appeared in an edition of 3500 copies, which has been sold out for years. Hence, since November, a brand new nostalgic 'jaardachskalender'.
Furthermore, the poet publishes in numerous magazines and was editor of the Frisian literary magazine Trotwaer/De Moanne.
Henk van der Veer left education in 2013 after 37 years and has since been a full-time journalist at GrootMedia, which publishes 5 Grootkranten and De Friesland Post, among others. Since 2004 the author keeps a digital diary: www.henkvanderveer.nl
Henk van der Veer regularly performs in churches & pubs, and was for years a columnist for Omrop Fryslân and is also a presenter of events.
