Sneek and the surroundings of Southwest Friesland are perfect for exploring by (electric) bike. For example, the bicycle tour Rondje Sneekermeer takes you along the water where in summer the sailing competitions of the Sneekweek take place. This beautiful route gives a wonderful view of the Sneekermeer and at 42.5 kilometers is very doable on a summer afternoon. This bike tour starts in Sneek, for example at the Fries Scheepvaart Museum on Kleinzand in Sneek.

Tip
Turn right at the exit Sneekermeer and De Potten and deviate from the route for a while. Get off at recreation area De Potten and visit the Waterskibaan. At the end of the road, the ferry leaves for Starteiland, known for the many sailing activities that take place there. In the summer it is nice to take the ferry across and have a cup of coffee on the terrace of the Foarûnder.

At the Oude Schouw in the village of Akkrum, cross the Prinses Margrietkanaal. The Prinses Margrietkanaal is one of the busiest waterways in Friesland for both recreational and commercial shipping. Ships of 1000 tons are no exception and if you are lucky a push combination of impressive length will pass by.

Of course, you can also cycle the route in the opposite direction. In that case you cycle first in the direction of Oppenhuizen to Joure, Terherne, and then back to Sneek.
