Akkrum is a lively and popular water sports village. It is located at the beginning of the Turfroute; a great start to a beautiful sailing route.

When walking through Akkrum, a visit to the Coopers Bridge is recommended. A beautiful building named after F.H. Kuipers. In 1866 he emigrated to America and became a wealthy businessman there. During an annual visit to his father, he noticed the poverty of the old village population. He established a foundation and had Coopers Bridge built to provide shelter and care for the poor. The home has a beautiful garden with a carp pond and a sundial.
