About the city walk
The Sneeker Waterpoort, Sneekweek, Grutte Pier... Sneek has quite a few things it is known for. The Waterpoort is the symbol of the city and of the Sneeker skûtsje, a Frisian sailing ship in which every year exciting races are sailed against other historical skûtsjes. Sneek is Friesland's third-largest city, where you'll find people who do like to party. This walk of over half an hour takes you past the most beautiful parts of Sneek, and we invite you to grab a terrace afterwards. Because that is Sneek at its best.
About the fountain
On a golden sphere in the middle of the water stands a man holding a Horn of Plenty. The statue refers to Fortuna, the goddess of fortune and the patroness of cities, families and peoples. The overflowing horn symbolizes the material prosperity of the lucky person who comes into contact with it. But the golden orb constantly rotates on its axis, so that the water, like the influx of fortune, becomes an incalculable force. The abundance that happens to pour itself upon us can just as quickly be taken away again by fate. Just look at the history of Sneek.
