The Whale in Harlingen

Once upon a time, Harlingen was all about whaling. Nowadays we no longer strive to kill these great and grand animals, but rather to save them from death. Especially as they are increasingly stranded in shallow waters for unclear reasons. Harlingen's fountain is a lifelike sperm whale. It lies as if lost near the Zuiderpier, but occasionally its powerful jet of water betrays that it is indeed alive. Thus "The Whale" testifies to the enormous influence man has on everything that lives in the sea.
