Streetart Switching Class
The Schakel class is one of the competition sailing classes of the Sneekweek sailing races.
The Sneekweek is the largest inland water sailing event in Europe. The Sneekweek starts on the first 1st Saturday of August. On Friday evening the Sneekweek starts with the traditional Vlootschouw Sneek. From Saturday to Thursday the Sneekweek sailing regattas are held on the Sneekermeer and there are music squares in the town center and lots of (music) activities and many festivities for young and old.
The Schakel was designed by the Covenant measurers Koopmans and Luyten and has been a recognized class since 1961. The Schakel is a wooden sword boat, manned by two people and equipped with a trapeze. The link owes its popularity in no small part to the active link organization. In Friesland, the boat is popular with sailors who have grown out of the Flits.
