Commemorative tile synagogue

On May 4, 1972, Chief Rabbi E. Berlinger laid a memorial tile in Wijde Burgstraat. The tile was located near the place where Sneek's Jewish synagogue had stood. That synagogue was destroyed during a raid on November 3, 1944. The commemorative tile reads in Hebrew "To remembrance" and "Here stood the synagogue until 1945. During a 1985 reconstruction of Wijde Burgstraat, the tile was placed on a pedestal. That pedestal is in the shape of a Star of David.
