Polder mill Greate Wierum

Built in 1921, the windmill Greate Wierum, with its flight of 11 meters and 30 blades, is one of the larger Frisian American windmills. The mill is of the Herkules Metallicus type and stands about a kilometer south of Lutkewierum on the Oude Ried, halfway down the road to Scharnegoutum. The mill, owned by the Wetterskip Fryslân, is grinding capable and can be visited by appointment. The Groote Wierumerpolder is a national monument.
