After an expansion of the General Cemetery on Kerkhoflaan in 1957, the former city council decided to have a work of art placed on the boundary of the old and new sections.The commission went to the well-known Frisian artist Jan Murk de Vries who designed a metal sculpture expressing sorrow and consolation.The work of art was placed in 1958 and is about two meters high.
