In 1981 the Old Civil Orphanage celebrated its 400th anniversary. On the occasion of this jubilee, the OBW donated a sculpture group to the former municipality, depicting a girl holding a lamb and a boy standing looking at it. Child with lamb was designed and created by artist Maria van Everdingen and symbolizes the care of and for children. The statue stands at the beginning of the Kleinzand. On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the OBW, an anniversary book was also published and an exhibition was dedicated to this institution at the Fries Scheepvaart Museum. Also as part of the jubilee, the administration building of the OBW in Kleine Kerkstraat was restored.
