Bank of the new reality (Prince Hendrikkade)
The seven-person bench was conceived and designed by Frisian architect Nynke-Rixt Jukema, inspired by the one-and-a-half-meter society.
The bench has a diameter of 4.5 meters and is based on the Frisian lying benches. Automatically, people sit 1.5 meters away from each other, entirely according to guidelines from the RIVM. Jukema: ,,In the public space you see especially that people feel very uncomfortable with the new measures. I think it is important that we talk to each other, that we go outside, even in this society. Although sitting one and a half meters away from each other often feels very far, the horseshoe-shaped design and the high back of this bench actually creates a kind of social connection."
The bench is a donation from ICT service provider Accent Automatisering of Sneek on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.
