Anchor out of the Wadden Sea (Bothniakade)
The ship anchor on the Bothniakade in Sneek will be back where it was taken from in late October for a hefty restoration in June 2021. The rotten wood had to be replaced and the iron treated. The restoration work took place in cooperation between Het Fries Scheepvaartmuseum and the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân. The anchor is regularly used as a climbing and play object, so anchoring it when it was returned was an extra concern.
This stick anchor is from a sea ship around 1700 and placed on the Bothniakade. The anchor was fished out of the Wadden Sea in the fall of 1982 by the cockle fishermen Toering from Harlingen. The anchor was donated to the FSM and placed in Sneek in December 1982.
