Sneek received some city rights as early as the 13th century, but it was not until the 15th century that they were finally confirmed.

In September 1925, Sneek's 400th anniversary as a free Merchant Town was celebrated grandly with numerous festivities, with even Queen Wilhelmina and Princess Juliana visiting the town.

The 1925 program booklet inspired another series of festivities, 100 years later. These activities are intended for all Sneek residents, young and old, to revive history and highlight our town's rich commercial history. All visitors to Sneek can become part of this special history.
