The concert opens with Brahms' poignant rendition of the human struggle with the inevitability of fate, as presented to us in the ancient tragedies. In struggle, heroes are born, Beethoven showed us in his Eroica symphony. And just as Richard Strauss alluded to Beethoven's Eroica in Ein Heldenleben in 1899, Wenzelberg entered into a creative dialogue with Beethoven's famous symphony in his Heroic Dreamscape Fantasy in 2016. From this perspective, the finale of Mozart's 40th symphony can be heard as the futile struggle against fate.
Conductor: Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg
Horn: Hanna Guirten
