"This life is foot by foot. And if you take me by the hand, I'll take you by the hand (I know, this sounds like a song); if we don't do this then we'll just falter a little more. No one's going to lose sleep over that except you and me."
We follow the lives of children Lisa, Anna and Victor growing up in a desolate rural village. The family atmosphere is defined by a heavy-drinking father and a mother trying to escape her family. Despite this, or because of it, the children feel firmly connected to the nest they come from. Little by little, we experience the nature of the bond between the two oldest children Victor and Lisa. The tender, intimate bond of destiny, the uninhibited attachment and, above all, the indefinable confusion caused by their feelings for each other.
In The Eternal Hunting Fields, we are drawn into the story of these children, who keep love in their sights despite all the misery. The debut novel by Nanne Tepper (1962-2012) was the literary sensation of the year and won the Anton Wachter Prize in 1996.
'They laugh, and they hug and kiss, and it's strange but beautifully beautiful.'
