Mar-athon Sneek

The Mar-athon Sneek will return to the Waterpoort city in 2025. The Stichting Plezier in Beweging is taking over the baton from sports organization Le Champion, which previously indicated it would not continue the event.

The Mar-athon Sneek is a unique walking and running event around Sneek and the Sneekermeer. It is a household name in Friesland and over the years has brought literally thousands of people in motion who have enjoyed what Sneek and its surroundings have to offer," said Daniël Hooghiemstra on behalf of the new organization. The continuation puts the organization back in Frisian hands.

Le Champion is pleased that a successor for the organization of the Mar-athon Sneek has been found. René Wit, Le Champion: "It is a beautiful event that with many ingredients such as the Waterpoort and the Sneekermeer has a unique character. "We are therefore pleased that the event will be retained for Friesland and wish them every success with its continuation!".

The 8th edition of the Mar-athon Sneek is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025, traditionally around the longest summer day of the year. With the help of all partners, sponsors and the efforts of many volunteers, the organization is putting everything in place to once again make a sporting experience possible and put summer in motion together.
