Lunch lecture: Jan van der Kuur and Ronnie Matitawaer
- Wednesday 9 April
12:00 - 14:00
Following the posthumous discovery of letters from his father Anne, then serving as a war volunteer in the battalion Friesland, Jan van der Kuur delved deeper into the years of bitter struggle against Indonesia's struggle for independence. The testimony of his years as a soldier in the former Dutch East Indies was evident not only in his letters, but also in other documentation such as photographs, military diplomas, a series of souvenirs and old school records. Ronnie tells from his Moluccan background about his father who, as a KNIL soldier, resisted the Japanese in Indonesia during World War II.
Jan and Ronnie met in De Tiid after a lecture by Jan. They shared their memories and became friends. Since then they tell together from different sides the painful and hard history of their, at that time very young, fathers.
The lunch lecture is on Wednesday, April 9, in our museum café and costs €12.50 per person. From 11:30 a.m. walk-in with a cup of coffee or tea. At noon the lecture will begin while enjoying lunch. You can register by e-mail at balie@friesscheepvaartmuseum.nl
