On May 5, Sneek celebrates freedom with an impressive program full of music, commemorations and festivities.

The day begins festively with a liberation lunch at 11:00 a.m. on the Martiniplein, where residents and visitors come together to enjoy a communal meal in freedom. This special moment is dedicated to meeting and connecting.

Then, at approximately 12:15 p.m., an impressive column of 40 historic army vehicles from Keep Them Rolling will enter the city and park on the Oud Kerkhof. Here the public will have the opportunity to admire the vehicles up close and pause to reflect on their historical significance. The arrival of the vehicles will be accompanied by music and a festive reception.

While Keep Them Rolling is set up on the Oud Kerkhof, the Liberation Flame, traditionally spread from Wageningen, arrives at 1 p.m. Accompanied by marching bands, the flame is proudly brought into the city and solemnly received at the Oud Kerkhof.

Later in the day, a large-scale tattoo will take place on the Martini Square, beginning with the preliminary program at 2:30 p.m., at 3 p.m. the tattoo will start. Various marching bands will provide impressive performances in honor of freedom.
