Filmhuis Sneek: Woman
- Sunday 9 Marchvanaf 13:00
Woman opens our eyes to themes of motherhood, education, marriage, economic independence, sexuality, politics and the female body. With the main question: what does it mean to be a woman on this globe? Woman is an extraordinary documentary by the influential French director and nature photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand (b. 1946). He is known, among other things, for the United Nations-supported international photo project Earth From Above and the monumental documentary Human, which screened at IDFA in 2015. Woman was co-directed by Ukrainian-born and French-based journalist and filmmaker Anastasia Mikova, who has worked with Yann Arthus-Bertrand since 2009, was assistant director of Human and now co-directs WOMAN. The film was presented out of competition at the Venice Film Festival in late summer 2019. The directors collaborated with world-renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh (1944-2019) to best highlight the theme about a woman's relationship with her own body. The images of the "vertical performance" dancers of the Bandaloop collective metaphorically illustrate a woman's power to reach great heights.
