Filmhuis Sneek; Flow

A truly wonderful and particularly moving adventure. The people are gone, but that doesn't seem to bother the cat. The house with the nice bed is still there and the river is full of fish. Until suddenly the water begins to rise and very quickly too. Barely the cat manages to save itself thanks to a passing sailboat. A capybara, a dog, a lemur and a bird join them. Together they form an unlikely company that must learn to survive in this overwhelming new world.

Flow is only his second film, but already super-talented Gints Zilbalodis is being called Hayao Miyazaki's worthy successor. In Flow, he creates a mythical, majestic world of sunken ruins, destructive storms and looming forests. The animals and their magical journey symbolize something greater, while at the same time the animals remain strikingly themselves. Hundreds of cat and other animal movies the animators watched to most faithfully depict the behavior and communication between the animals. This groundbreaking animated film, which ranks high on every Oscar list, elicits superlatives from the international press and leaves audiences, both adults and children, enraptured. Flow is the most fantastic film of the year in more ways than one.
