From realistic to abstract. Here in the public library of Sneek a small selection of the paintings I make. Every time something different, but just what fascinates me at a certain moment. I am self-taught in this area, but both my parents painted. Father painted more incidentally, mother painted a lot of Hindelooper but also scenes. Her painting works and library on Hindelooper painting have rightly got a place in the Hidde Nijland museum.
I paint with acrylic paint, use besides brushes and palette knives and everything that seems handy at a given moment like e.g. wood, sponges, wet cloths and sometimes the fingers ... Furthermore, I paint mostly on 3D panels, because then you get a robust painting that doesn't need a frame. How does such a hobby come about? A few years ago we were in front of a painting at a furniture store, a Japanese scene with a cherry branch. Seemed suddenly fun to start making something like that myself, gene? Just picked up canvas, paint and panels at a Chinese wholesale grocery store as a try-out. Soon I started enjoying it and nowadays almost every week a new painting emerges.
I don't sell them (yet), but by now the studio is packed with them. That's why I sometimes give them away to family, friends or make a duplicate on request if I don't want to lose the original. It will not be a 100% lookalike. I paint from memory, without a preconceived plan or drawing and mainly follow my feelings, with a preference for working with palette knife and fingers. The paintings are currently published on Brekt.nl with a story in which I often put myself, my paintings and politics into perspective for the necessary humor.
