Brahms wrote his 2nd piano concerto as if it were a symphony. The work is four-part and the division of roles between the soloist and orchestra is as equal as in Beethoven's 5th piano concerto. Brahms' work has the same grandeur and is certainly not inferior to it. Indeed, Brahms was truly Beethoven's successor!
