Concert Capella Sneek: Aus Liebe
- Saturday 12 April
20:00 - 21:30
On Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 20:00h, Capella Sneek, in cooperation with professional baroque ensemble Het Margaretha Consort and sopranos Sippie Broersma and Margreet Rietveld, will present in the St. Martinuskerk in Sneek a program focusing on music written for the Passion period (the dying of Jesus Christ), with J.S. Bach as its best-known composer, of course.
The Matthäus Passion is one of his best-known works and has topped the classical top-400 for years, but his Johannes Passion is also very impressive, especially the magisterial opening chorus in which he portrays 'the son of man' of divine origin with great strokes: Herr, unser Herrscher! From the Matthaus Passion we hear the most famous arias: 'Erbarme dich', sung by Sippie Broersma and 'Aus Liebe' sung by soprano Margreet Rietveld. The two singers also sing together the famous first part of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, which is about the pain and sorrow of the mother of Jesus who sees her son suffering on the cross. In addition, Bach's motet 'Jesu, meine Freude' will also be performed which - originally written as funeral music - fits perfectly into this program, as does Lotti's poignant Crucifixus.
The Capella Sneek choir has been in existence since 2017 and has set itself the goal of reaching the highest possible musical level and consists of a very mixed group when it comes to background and experience, but they are united in their ambition and commitment and thus perform the most diverse programs with great energy and conviction. The choir is led by conductor Gerard van Beijeren.
