As part of Brêge nei Frijheid, Media Art Friesland and the Fries Scheepvaart Museum are putting the Harinxma Bridge in Sneek in the light. The bridge has a strong symbolic meaning: it was for the Sneker resistance fighters Jan Lever and Piet Faber on the night of November 16-17, 1943, their direct route to freedom. Via this bridge they managed to escape the raid by the German Sicherheitsdienst that had taken place on that night at Kleinzand 18. Searchlights and the sound of footsteps on the bridge represent the escape of both men.

The installation was created by Media Art Friesland (Christoph Janssen, Andrea Möller, Gabe Kamphuis and Marinus Groen) and was made possible in part by Sneek 80 years free. You can read the Lever family's resistance story here: www.friesscheepvaartmuseum.nl/brege-nei-frijheid-sneek
