Mills around Sneek

Near Sneek you have windmills in Oppenhuizen (Geeuwpoldermolen), Uitwellingerga (wind motors) and Woudsend (Monnikmolen and part of a Monnikmolen) and in IJlst (Houtzagmolen de Rat).

On the banks of the Geeuw, the age-old waterway between IJlst and Sneek, is the unique sawmill De Rat, which is still fully operational. Trunks lying in the water, the sound of the turning blades, the pounding of the rising and falling saw frames, the smell of freshly sawn wood; Here you can still experience the sawmilling craft as it has been practiced daily in De Rat for more than three centuries.
